2014 Updates through the first 8 months

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!

2014 began with a huge explosion for me; I received official results that I had REVERSED my diabetes! And, I got my weight down as low as 257 lbs! I was officially taken off my diabetic medication and I was 7 lbs away from officially being taken off my blood pressure medication.

Well, the story changed from that point in time. I fell off the wagon with my eating habits. However, I did maintain my work out habits and even began training for a half marathon, which took place June 8, 2014.

While training for the half marathon, I was to complete an un-official half marathon on my on (13.6 miles in 3 hours and 8 minutes). Unfortunately, during my training, my right hip came out of alignment by 2.5 inches; I went to see my chiropractor and got re-aligned. However, at this point I stopped running and continued my cardio training. June 8th arrived and the event was delayed due to weather conditions; Once it began, I felt my hip come out of alignment within the first 2 miles, which prevented me from completing the half marathon, but I did complete the 10K. My running days are officially done!

From January to May, my weight has increased to the 290's and I have been unable to shake the 290's since May. I have experienced getting as low as 288 lbs one day and the very next day I weighed 296 lbs. Again, the inability to shed pounds can be attributed to eating habits. But, I also feel that my body has reacted to loss of the diabetic medication, which helped to expel liquids. I plan on speaking with my physician about a medication to assist with water retention and I have been considering a cleanse to get past the plateau effect that I am experiencing.

While training for the half marathon, I was also training for the Tour de Paris 110K bike ride in Paris, Texas on July 19, 2014. I am excited and please to say that I completed the 110K (68.6 miles) in 6 hours and 20 minutes and also that the weather cooperated (73 degrees with cloudy skies). During my training I completed 72 miles on my stationary bicycle and I completed 66.5 miles cycling outdoors on the fourth of July.

The 66.5 mile ride on the fourth of July, which was the greatest distance for me at that time, consisted of cycling from my home in McKinney to a fraternity brother's home in Frisco and from there we cycled to Plano, The Colony, Carrollton, back to Plano, then to Allen, McKinney and back to his home in Frisco and from there I cycled back home to McKinney (all locations are in Collin County, Texas).

Lastly, I increased my daily goals for 2014 from 1,750 calories a day to 2,000 calories a day and from 6 miles a day to 7 miles a day in January to 8 miles a day in February and in June I increased the daily miles from 7 miles to 10 miles.

See you on the next post!
