2013 Fourth Quarter Statistics

October Goals: 54,250 calories and 186 miles

On November 23rd, I participated in 31st Annual Turkey Troll (Denton, Texas). I set out to complete 62 miles cycling. That did not occur. The weather conditions were 33 degrees (possibly less) with wind and rain. Add to the fact that the further north I cycled, the colder is became. I cycled 18 miles and had to stop due to the fact that my hands were swollen and completely numb and I has on gloves. It turns out, I had suffered a mild case of frost bite!

On the morning of November 28th (Thanksgiving), I participated in the Turkey Trot (Frisco, Texas) event for the second year and for the second year, I participated in the 10K leg of the event. Well it was colder than the previous week (24 degrees to be exact), but this time I was prepared with two pairs of gloves (LOL). Entering the event, I had accepted the challenge from my fraternity brother (Michael Cooks) that we were going to run at least 1 mile of the event. Well, for the first time, I ran the entire 6.2 miles! I did not walk any portion of the race! More importantly, at the end of the race, I did not feel as if I needed to be carried to my vehicle nor did I feel as if I needed an oxygen mask. As a matter of fact, I wanted to go home and workout!

To finish the year and begin the new year, I participated in the Allen Double Double event. I participated in the 5K events each morning. On December 31st, I ran the 5K (3.1 miles) in 38 minutes! On January 1st, I ran the 5K in 37 minutes!

Given the fact that I have now participated and completed three running events where I ran the entire distance each time, I am going to target participating in a half marathon (13.1 miles) in 2014.
