It's been a long time, I should not have left you, without a stimulating blog post to read through;
Just a little rap humor for all of you readers who remember the golden age of rap music!
So you may wonder what I have been up to and did I accomplish my goal of 300 lbs by March 31, 2012. Well, I missed my goal by 2 lbs, but achieved my goal during the month of April. From April 2012 through the first two weeks of June 2012, I fluctuated between 300 lbs and 310 lbs weekly. However, my blood pressure has been fantastic and my blood sugar readings have been non-diabetic. In June, I celebrated my 42nd birthday and did not workout the last two weeks of the month. Then I celebrated my 13th wedding anniversary during the month of July. Needless to say, I have been eating very well and moved back up to 320 lbs.
As a result, I have intensified my workouts. Below are a list of my accomplishments since I began this journey back in September 2011.
12/31/11 - Completed 2 continuous hours on my elliptical;
2/29/12 - Completed 5 continuous hours on a stationary bicycle;
4/24/12 - Walked for 1 hour and 40 minutes on my treadmill at a speed of 3.3 mph and an incline of
4 while wearing a 40 lb weighted vest;
5/9/12 - Walked 16 laps around a neighborhood park (.45 of a mile per lap) while wearing a 40 lb
weighted vest;
6/7/12 - Walked 16.5 miles in 4 hours and 23 minutes;
6/8/12 - Completed my first official 5K race/walk in 1 hour and 43 minutes while wearing a 40 lb
weighted vest and pulling a 20lb wagon with my 43 lb 4 year old son riding in it;
7/20/12 - Walked 16.97 miles in 4 hours and 33 minutes;
7/29/12 - Rode my bicycle for the first time in a decade and I rode 7.8 miles at a speed of 9 mph; and
7/30/12 - Rode my bicycle for the second time in a decade and I rode 17.7 miles at a speed of 10.2
mph.
Through all of the hard work, I have gone from a 60 inch waist to a 49 inch waist; from a 5XLT shirt to a 3XLT shirt; from a 22 inch neck to a 17 inch neck; and from a 60 long in a suit to a 54 long in a suit.
I have now set a goal for myself to participate in a Sprint Triathlon in either the Summer or the Fall of 2013. A sprint triathlon (half of a full triathlon) consists of a 750 meter swim (15 laps in an Olympic sized swimming pool), a 20K (12-13 mile) bicycle ride, and a 5K (3 miles) run. As I type this post today, I figure that the first challenge will be training to swim the 15 laps and the next challenge will be putting all three together at once. No easy task, I admit, but I am looking forward to the challenge. As of yesterday, I have now committed myself to incorporating weight lifting into my workouts on a consistent basis and I am going to make the leap and start jogging next week.
Below are the applications that I use on my cell phone and/or computer to monitor all of my work.
- My Fitness Pal - www.myfitnesspal.com;
- Cardio Trainer - only on Android cell phones;
- Daily Mile - www.dailymile.com; and
- My Virtual Health Check (for my diabetes) - www.myvirtualhealthcheck.com
This journey began because of my youngest son and it continues because of the continued progress to my overall health. My ultimate goal is to be medication free by 2013 (no blood pressure medication and no diabetic medication)! As it pertains to my weight loss goal, I am shooting for 275 lbs by the end of 2012!
Finally, thanks for all of the support as well as the encouragement, and if I can in some way inspire someone else then all of the hard work has served a double purpose! If you plateau...KEEP WORKING!
